After serving thirteen years as a Texas politician Ben Barnes resigned from his post as Lt. Governor in 1973. He immediately joined former Texas Governor and colleague John Connally in business and development.
The two worked together on various projects through the 1970s and into the early 1980s.
Some unfortunate breaks in the market forced both men to file bankruptcy in the early 1980s. This was a low point of Ben Barnes’ career that would not be revisited.
In 1989 Former LT Gov of Texas Ben Barnes founded a lobbying and consulting firm called Entrecorp. The firm grew quickly as word about Barnes’ skills as a fundraiser and lobbyist spread. In the early 1990s Barnes went into business with GTech, a management company operating lotteries in 37 states including Texas.
In the late 90s GTech and Former LT Gov of Texas Barnes amiably parted ways with Barnes receiving a check for $23 million. On his work with GTech Barnes said: “We are proud to have helped launch the largest and most successful lottery in the nation.
I have committed my career to serving Texas and Texans and I am proud to have been part of an effort that has contributed $4 billion to the General Revenue Fund of Texas.”
Since then the former Lt. Governor has continued to assist his home state in various ventures. Continually fighting for higher education and contributing thousands of dollars to charities keeps Barnes busy these days.
